Home Inspector Certification Schemes

Certification Schemes are responsible for ensuring that Home Inspectors are 'fit and proper' persons, who are properly qualified and insured to produce Home Condition Reports (HCRs). Certification Schemes are also responsible for the quality of home inspectors and HCRs. The HCR is an authorised (optional) document for inclusion in the Home Information Pack. The Certification Scheme is also responsible for ensuring that all HCRs are stored on an electronic register that will be kept on behalf of the Government. Access to registered HCRs is controlled by the Home Information Pack (No.2) Regulations 2007 and reports can be retrieved from the Energy Performance Certificate and Home Condition Report Register (see link at top right).

Certifications Schemes are also responsible for ensuring that energy assessors are 'fit and proper' persons, who are properly qualified and insured, to produce Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).

Home inspector training requires a significant input of time and money and this is not going to be compatible with all circumstances. Those interested in becoming a Home Inspector should investigate the current demand for Home Condition Reports in their area before making the commitment to train.
