An efficient and effective Fire and Rescue Service

Ministers wish to see a fire and rescue service which is efficient and effective. The Department seeks to secure this through clear requirements set out in the National Framework. The Framework is backed by an effective performance regime, which is delivered to a large extent through the Audit Commission.

The Department supports the fire and rescue service through funding which incorporates efficiency assumptions. The Department also seeks to promote economies of scale, for example securing efficiencies in procurement through Firebuy.
