Statistics on staffing in the Civil Service have been collected and published
since 1970. A small team in the Fast Stream, Europe, Recruitment and Statistics
Division (part of Corporate Development Group) in the Cabinet Office is
responsible for the collection, analysis and dissemination of Civil Service
staffing statistics. Summary statistics are published twice a year, and
more detailed figures are published annually. Historical data is available
on this site.
These figures have been published as National Statistics
since June 2000. National Statistics are produced to high professional
standards set out in the National Statistics Code of Practice. They undergo
regular quality assurance reviews to ensure that they meet customer needs.
They are produced free from political interference. Cabinet Office has
issued a statement
describing the arrangements we have put in place to ensure our compliance
with the National Statistics protocol on Release Practices. Details of
National Statistics policy governing the release of new data are available
from the ONS Press Office on (+44)(0)207 533 5725. |
