Britain's Foreign Secretary, William Hague, has been pushing for UN action on the current situation in Syria. Speaking on the BBC Today show, he said in response to the question of military action against Syria, "Well it's not a remote possibility, even if we were in favour of that."
Meanwhile, the interim report of the inquiry into Australia's devastating Queensland floods has been published. The main focus of the report was on Queensland's biggest dam that provides the majority of Brisbane's water supply. If forecasters predict another extreme wet season it may have to be drained to 75% of its capacity.

On the media side, as traditional platforms come under threat, the attraction and competitiveness of future offers will depend on being able to innovate using content derived from different sources, setting up collaborations and deploying new skills; access to capital and technology platforms will be critical. This year's conference 'Trends in Global Communications: Making Digital Society a Universal Reality' will take place from the 3-4 October.
