Volunteer Management Programme

Background

This £3m grants programme, launched in June 2009, will provide support to people who manage volunteers, and will help ensure that volunteers themselves get the best possible experience.

It follows through on commitments made by the Office of the Third Sector in their response to the recommendations of the 2008 Commission on the Future of Volunteering.

Three phases of funding
The programme has been designed around three strands of funding and activity, each closely interrelated.

NB: The first two of these funding strands - outlined below - are no longer open for application.

Strand A: an 18 month £1.45m grant fund supporting 24 local projects in provision of outreach and other direct support services.  They are targeting those who may not normally engage with existing suport providers.

Strand B: a £200,000 investment to help fill some key gaps in the strategic support of volunteer management.  This work is being delivered through the existing Modernising Volunteering national support service, funded by Capacitybuilders and delivered by Volunteering England.

Strand C:
Strand C is a £1m bursary scheme to support volunteer management skills development.
