Best Places to Work & Total Reward

Many organisations work hard to enter the Sunday Times Best 100 Companies list, compiled every year, with the list attracting more aspirants each year. Ratings are based on staff survey results, and while there are no core public service organisations, the 2008 list includes several Housing Associations. Reading the articles shows that it is not big pay packets that get organisations on the list – the survey focuses on the areas of leadership, wellbeing, belonging, personal growth and giving back to the community. The Sunday Times website has interviews with each of the Top 100 companies, and includes various articles on aspects of Total Reward.

All organisations over three years old and employing more than 50 people can enter, including government agencies and not-for-profit organisations. The Sunday Times states that listed companies in the survey consistently our-perform their FTSE 100 rivals, more evidence of the link between a positive organisational climate, engaged employees and improved organisational performance. Other countries have their equivalent surveys, such as the US Fortune magazine, which includes several Top 100 lists: Best Companies to Work For: http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/bestcompanies/2008/ [External Website]
