HITS sites: confirmed and prospective

Please consult the map below to see the provisional roll-out (phase) schedule as at January 2010.

HITS Phases v4

The status of each phase is described in more detail below and you should contact the Cabinet Office HITS team if you have any queries. Phase 1 includes one Transportable, and Phase includes a further 2 Transportables (1T and 2T shown above). Areas with patterned shading host more than one fixed site and include installations during more than one phase of the roll-out. Contact the Cabinet Office if your site falls in one those areas and you are unsure which phase your site falls in to.

Updates to the planned roll-out schedule will be reported on a monthly basis through this webpage. Changes are likely if a site has difficulty completing its preparatory works services in time for its planned window of installation. In that case, a site from a later phase would be advanced if possible, and the original site pushed back to a later phase.

Pilot sites

Pilot sites installation is almost complete. Site and system testing will be complete before the end of 2009, allowing service to sites to commence.

Phase 2 sites

All Phase 2 sites have been surveyed. All Phase 2 sites should be aware of the type of installation they will receive. A list of works services requirements has been submitted to most sites. Sites are required to complete the works services and ensure that any relevant planning approvals are obtained prior to the main installation. Cabinet Office and Paradigm will maintain weekly communications with sites to monitor the status of site furnished works services and to address any questions or issues arising.

Phase 3 sites

A provisional list of sites for Phase 3 has been identified. Some of those sites have already attended one of two briefing/Q&A sessions held in July and October 2009. A further event will take place in January 2010, hosted by the Cabinet Office and Paradigm. Site surveys for the Phase 3 sites have commenced and expected to continue through until Q3 2010. Individual dates will be confirmed with sites after site representatives have been fully briefed.

Phase 4 sites

Currently, there has been limited contact with sites planned for Phase 4 of the roll-out. Formal engagement will commence towards the middle of 2010.

Other sites

Cabinet Office is in ongoing discussion with Communities and Local Government about the inclusion of sites at the Government Office level as an extension to the core HITS network. It is understood that some GOs currently rely on arrangements that exploit sites which are already slated as part of the core HITS network. In other GOs this is not the case and further discussion is required to agree the most appropriate site in that GO and if appropriate to agree the relevant contractual detail. In the meantime Cabinet Office will endeavour to provide regional response colleagues with HITS accounts and familiarisation in the use of the system. HITS accounts are role- and organisation-based and are roaming, so are able to be used by responders at any site that is equipped with HITS.

Other Government departments and their agencies are expected to be contacted in late 2009 or early 2010 with information about buying connections into the HITS networks.

A handful of bilateral discussions have been held with those sites potentially at a more advanced stage of readiness and such approaches are welcomed by the HITS project team.

Please contact the HITS team using HITS@cabinet-office.x.gsi.gov.uk if you would like to discuss the possibility of buying a connection into the network.
