Exercise Breaking Crisis / Bright Future

September / October 2005

This was a major Force CBRN exercise involving the Technical Response Force of the British Army, the Police Forces of the Yorkshire region and other partner emergency services. The exercise fell into three phases:

Phase one, code-named 'Breaking Crisis', was a tabletop exercise aimed at the Silver/Gold level of the military and emergency services. The scenario was based around a chemical attack on a fictitious shopping complex.

Phase two, code named 'Bright Future', was a live exercise aimed at the Bronze level of the military and emergency services and dealt with a radiologically contaminated weapon at a fictitious power generation and supply facility.

Phase three, code named 'Bright Future Gold', was a tabletop exercise aimed at Gold level of local services and the West Yorkshire Resilience Forum who dealt with the aftermath of such a device detonating.

The Exercise was observed by military and emergency services umpires and a de-brief report is currently being compiled.
