Working for CCS

About CCS

The Civil Contingencies Secretariat (CCS) sits within the Cabinet Office at the heart of central government. We work in partnership with government departments, the devolved administrations, and key regional and local stakeholders to enhance the UK's ability to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.

CCS aims to ensure that the UK and its communities remain a safe and secure place to live and work, by effectively identifying and managing the risk of emergencies, and maintaining world-class capabilities to respond to and recover from emergencies if they occur.

Current Vacancies

There are currently no vacancies within CCS but if you are interested in a career with the secretariat please email ccsrecruitment@cabinet-office.x.gsi.gov.uk

Day in the life of...

Jobs in CCS are far from ordinary. All of our work contributes in some way to our aim of helping to improve the UK’s resilience to absorb, respond to, and recover from a disruptive challenge. There are a wide range of jobs and opportunities in CCS involving everything from policy development to risk assessment to project management. While there are some specific roles that require specialist skills and experience, such as project management or emergency planning, many roles are suitable for those without prior experience or knowledge of resilience or emergency planning. We welcome applications from all candidates who are interested in this area of work regardless of their professional backgrounds.

In addition to our normal work, CCS is responsible for delivering a 24/7 response in the event of a crisis which includes coordinating on behalf of the UK Government and managing COBR arrangements. All staff in CCS are expected to participate in this response work and in the associated relevant training and exercises. This gives CCS staff an opportunity to see their policy and project work in practice, as well as helping people and businesses recover from major incidents and emergencies.
