The Generations Together programme launched in September 2009 and will run until March 2011. Generations Together is a cross-government £5.5 million fund, which is funding twelve projects across the country.
The programme aims to break down the barriers between young and older people through mutually beneficial volunteering projects. The twelve projects are based in Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Portsmouth, Reading, Somerset, Plymouth, Luton, Northamptonshire, Worcestershire, Manchester, Gateshead and Wakefield.
The projects involve both local authorities and third sector organisations working jointly to increase intergenerational activity within their area. It is funded by the Office of the Third Sector, the Department for Children, Schools and Families, the Department for Work and Pensions and the Department of Health.
