The Office of the Third Sector has published the Government's response [PDF 121KB, 25 pages] to the Better Regulation Commission's (BRC) Report “Better Regulation for Civil Society” [EXternal website].
The original Better Regulation Task Force Report, now the BRC, made 11 recommendations and identified 5 areas for further work. These recommendations were addressed to a wide range of Government Departments and agencies, and the Office of the Third Sector has co–ordinated the Government's response.
The Government has fully or partly accepted almost all of the Report's 11 recommendations, and has agreed to take forward all of the areas for further work that were identified in the Report. Work has already begun on implementing a number of these.
In addition to this response, the Government is forging ahead with our efforts to tackle the burden of unnecessary regulation on the third sector where it exists.
The Charities Bill, which is close to completing its progress through Parliament, makes a number of de–regulatory changes that will particularly benefit small charities.
All Government Departments are also developing Simplification Plans which will set out how they can reduce regulatory burdens on businesses, charities and the voluntary sector. These plans will be published later this year. In particular, the Charity Commission's simplification plan will identify further de-regulatory measures that could significantly benefit charities.
