The Minister for the Third Sector opened the annual Bassac Conference in Manchester, on Wednesday 3 March, speaking about the important role of Bassac members in supporting communities.
In her speech, Angela Smith MP praised the work that Bassac members had been carrying out in communities up and down the country, in spite of the increased pressure on them due to the recession. She cited their resilient nature and collective memory as enabling them to have a unique and valued place in the third sector.
The Minister also spoke about the important connections that Bassac members make between the individual and the state, and the need for effective and long lasting partnerships between community anchor organisations with local authorities.
The theme of the Bassac Conference, which took place from 3-4th March 2010 was ‘Stand and Deliver: People, Power and Politics’.
