The Prime Minister met those working in the sector, including the winners of the Social
Enterprise Awards in England, and the nominees for Best Social Enterprise in Schools at a reception to mark Social Enterprise Day last week.
The Prime Minister said that communities are stronger as a result of social enterprises:
"Whatever job an individual is doing for whatever social enterprise in the country, you are doing something very much bigger than simply the task that you are carrying out. You are actually making our country a better, fairer and more successful country…You are making a younger generation see the importance of community solidarity and people working together for the common good.”
He was joined at the reception by Minister for the Third Sector Angela Smith, Minister for Young Citizens and Youth Engagement Dawn Butler and Cabinet Office Minister Tessa Jowell, who announced the winners of the Social Enterprise (England) Awards.
Tessa Jowell said social enterprises were “capturing the zeitgeist of today” and would be very important in the future.
Angela Smith, Minister for the Third Sector, said:
“Social Enterprise Awards are an excellent way of showcasing the best of social enterprise and inspiring more people to join the movement”.
