A consortium led by Adventure Capital Fund (ACF) will deliver Communitybuilders £70m funding programme in partnership with Futurebuilders England and the Community Alliance.
The fund is designed to strengthen the financial resilience of community led organisations - often referred to as ‘community anchors’ - who are looking to develop enterprise activities
Minister for the Third Sector, Angela Smith, said:
“The Government’s £70m investment in Communitybuilders is an exciting new funding approach that will support charities and voluntary organisations in the current economic climate and help them to emerge stronger. These organisations empower local citizens, providing a place to meet, holistic services and a voice for their communities. I look forward to working with ACF to make a difference to so many local community organisations.”
The aim of the Communitybuilders programme is to help anchor organisations adapt the way they operate so that if they chose to do so they can run enterprise activities, such as managed workspaces, conference facilities or take up service contracts.
This innovative investment fund comprises grants and loans and non financial support to help both existing and newly formed organisations move to a more sustainable and enterprising business model and establish themselves as successful community businesses for generations to come.
Communitybuilders funding will be open for applications in late summer 2009. For further information on the eligibility criteria and to register your expression of interest call 0191 261 5200
