Kevin Brennan, Minister for the Third Sector, has today appointed Helen Paterson as an additional member to the new Third Sector Advisory Body (TSAB). Helen brings direct experience of local authority commissioning and is Director of Children’s Services in Sunderland.
This additional appointment ensures that the body has a wide range of experience. TSAB has been set up to provide ministers with clear and authoritative advice on policy regarding the third sector, including charities, voluntary groups and social enterprises.
Kevin Brennan, Minister for the Third Sector, said:
“Understanding and improving commissioning from the Third Sector is key to the success of so many projects and programmes at a local level. That is why it is important that we have Advisory Body members who can talk to us at a policy level, about what works for the sector. I look forward to working with the Body through the coming year.”
The TSAB was a commitment of the Third Sector Review published in 2007. The appointment will be until March 2011. The position is remunerated at £250 per day for an estimated 15 days per year. This appointment has been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice. All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if declared) to be made public. None was declared.
