Phil Hope records message for GoldStar volunteering events

Eight regional road shows are being held between 5 September and 3 October 2007 as part of the GoldStar volunteering and mentoring programme. The purpose of the events is to raise awareness of volunteering and mentoring opportunities for volunteers from socially excluded groups, and to promote examples of good practice.

Each event hopes to attract between 100 and 150 delegates from a range of voluntary organisations, including those who coordinate work at the grass roots level for the voluntary and community sector and for GoldStar projects.

The events will be attended by representatives from the Office of the Third Sector's strategic partners, such as Volunteering England and the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation.

The GoldStar programme is a two-year, £5million programme, funded by the Cabinet Office, which was launched in November 2005 to spread good practice in the development of volunteering among people with no qualifications, ethnic minorities and people with disabilities or long-term illnesses.
