The Office of the Third Sector is currently recruiting two members for its Voluntary and Community Sector Advisory Group, which acts as a sounding board and critical friend to the OTS – playing an advisory rather than consultative role.
The Voluntary and Community Sector Advisory Group was originally set up in 2003 for an initial period of three years to advise the former Home Office Active Communities Directorate and Ministers on the role of the VCS in public service delivery. Its role has subsequently broadened to cover further aspects of government policy in relation to the third sector.
The group is made up of 12 members from various voluntary and community organisations working in different service sectors, including health, education, employment, and housing. Organisations working with black and minority ethnic (BME) communities are represented, as well as those active in rural or faith activity or in the community or social enterprise field. The composition of the group also includes a spread of regional expertise.
Members are selected because of their public service delivery experience and their understanding and experience of wider VCS issues rather than to represent their organisations. Selection was originally through a peer nomination process with VCS members of the Cross-Cutting Review steering group determining the final composition.
The appointments will be made with effect from 1 April 2007 for an initial period of one year with the possibility of extension.
