Charities Act 2006 implementation

An implementation plan for the Charities Act 2006 was first published in December 2006, setting out when the various provisions of the Act will be commenced. The implementation plan was updated in March 2010 to reflect the latest position.

Latest position (March 2010): We are consulting on proposals for charity law regulation of exempt foundation and voluntary schools. Consultation questions are in the Updated Implementation Plan and the Exempt Charities section on this website. The closing date for response is 30 June 2010. Officials in the Office of the Third Sector and the Charity Commission are working through some operational details for the Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). Implementation will begin later in the year and the CIO is not likely to be available as an option before 2011.
