The Commission for the Compact officially launched its policy work programme and business plan in April 2007. The Commissioner and their team will be taking this work forward in consultation with the voluntary and community sector and the Government.
The first Commissioner, John Stoker, was appointed through a joint process between Government ministers and third sector stakeholders, and took up office in October 2006.
John Stoker has announced that for personal reasons he is stepping down as Commissioner for the Compact. He will be succeeded, as interim Commissioner pending public competition, by Helen Baker, who is a non-executive Director of the Commission.
The aim of the Commission is to promote good practice in partnership working between government and the voluntary and community sector through the Compact, overseeing its operation.

The interim Commissioner and Chief Executive will be working closely with ministers, senior government officials, regional bodies and chief executives of voluntary and community organisations on how to make the Compact as effective as possible.
The Office of the Third Sector is the sponsorship manager of the Commission for the Compact, ensuring that the Commission and government work closely together on Compact issues.
