Electronic Networks: Background Papers

• Research paper on non-regulatory levers (pdf, 122kb)This research paper identifies the main non-regulatory levers available to Government, and then looks at how these levers are currently being used in the UK.
• Research paper on digital content (pdf, 61kb) This research paper sets out an analysis of possible developments in digital content, in order to have a complete picture of the factors influencing market development. It focuses particularly on government initiatives to support the development of broadband content.
• LSE report (pdf, 218kb) Report prepared by the London School of Economics, reviewing micro-level case studies on the impact of Electronic Networks on the UK economy, and looking in particular at the importance of 'learning' in facilitating productivity improvements through electronic networks. A key factor identified by the report is the need for companies, public sector and households to know how they can use electronic networks to facilitate 'organisational change'. This presents several possible roles for Government which are explored in the report.
• LBS report (pdf, 991kb) Report prepared by the London Business School as part of the scoping work for this project, reviewing existing evidence on the impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on labour productivity and economic growth, and examining the applicability of these results to electronic infrastructure and broadband in particular.
