Baroness O'Neill's presentation looked at the questions around trust and lack of trust in public servants, part of a rich panoply of preoccupation with (mis) trust in British life, and how the same themes also dominate discussions of (mis) trust in politicians, the media and professionals. Baroness O’Neill outlined how these preoccupations are poorly focused and that there two main reasons for this. One the persistent belief that the interesting questions are about trust rather than about trustworthiness, and the other, measures taken to 'rebuild' trust often use inappropriate and sometimes counterproductive approaches to accountability
