Obesity

Dr Susan Jebb of the MRC Human Nutrition Research Unit and Professor Sandy Thomas, Director of the Foresight Programme, discussed the main findings and conclusions of the Foresight project Tackling Obesities: Future Choices, including trends in the prevalence of obesity, the causal drivers behind these trends and future policy options.

Dr Jebb is Chair of the DH Interim Expert Group on Obesity,  and one the science Advisers to the Foresight project Tackling Obesities: Future Choices, and a member of the FSA Expert Review Panel on Nutrient Profiling. She is an Honorary Officer of the European Association for the Study of Obesity and the former Chair of the UK Association for the Study of Obesity.

The Foresight Programme is based within the Government Office for Science and aims to strengthen strategic policy making in government by embedding an evidence–based futures approach and drawing on the best available scientific and other evidence. The Government Office for Science, headed by the Government Chief Scientific Adviser (GCSA) is  based within the Department for Innovation Uuniversities and Skills.
