Paul Hayes, Chief Executive of the National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse (NTA), discussed the organisation's role; its success in increasing the numbers receiving drug treatment, and in reducing waiting times and drop out rates; and the future challenges the Agency faces.
Paul has been Chief Executive of the NTA since its creation in 2001 and advises Ministers and senior officials in the Department of Health and Home Office about all issues to do with the provision of drug treatment in England. He is the lead advisor to the NTA Board which is responsible for shaping the NTA's strategic direction and leads the Senior Management Team in implementing the agency's work programme. Prior to joining the NTA Paul worked for the Probation Service for over 20 years.
