Inspiring Communities programme

The New Opportunities White Paper [External website], published in January 2009, announced policy recommendations that build on this analytical work. The Inspiring Communities programme, supported by £10million new funding, will develop a new approach to raise the aspirations and educational attainment of young people in deprived areas.

Initially based in 15 neighbourhoods, it will fund and support neighbourhood partnerships to deliver a programme of activities working with young people, their parents and communities, to create new opportunities, broaden horizons and build up the self-confidence of local people. The partnerships will include schools, councils, third sector organisations, parents and young people. Local businesses and relevant service providers are also encouraged to become involved.

The 15 project sites were announced by Communities and Local Government on 4 August 2009.
