Working together to deliver public services is vital to improving the lives of the most vulnerable groups in society, according to research from the Social Exclusion Task Force.
The Government aims to increase the proportion of at-risk people in stable accommodation and employment. It has found, after speaking to frontline staff, that increased communications and collaboration between different public service providers is a key way of achieving this goal.
Ahead of a major cross-Government campaign aimed at front-line public service workers, the Social Exclusion Task Force is calling for examples of public services that have worked together and improved the lives of the most vulnerable groups in society, focussing on people with a learning disability, people with mental health problems, care leavers and offenders under probation supervision.
It is looking for examples of projects or initiatives that show how staff working across services have helped people in at-risk groups take steps towards a stable home and job. This could involve any form of public services from any sector, including voluntary, local government and central government workers, or front-line staff working in social care, housing, mental health, Job Centre Plus, prison or probation services.
Angela Smith, Minister for the Third Sector and Social Exclusion, said:
“The staff that deliver Britain’s public services are working up and down the country to make a massive difference to the lives of vulnerable people. The Government is committed to continuing to support public services to get at-risk groups into stable accommodation and sustainable employment.”
“Public services are at their best when people are working together. It means services are joined-up and every aspect of the challenges in an individual’s life is addressed. The best way to illustrate this is to show case studies from people working in public services – and to do this we are looking for examples of excellent public services from across the UK.”
