The Social Exclusion Task Force was set up in June 2006. Its mission is to extend the opportunities enjoyed by the vast majority of people in the UK today to those whose lives have been characterised by deprivation and exclusion. We will work closely with all government departments to ensure that the needs of the most socially excluded are addressed.

The Task Force is based in the Cabinet Office and reports to Ed Miliband, Minister for the Cabinet Office.

The Task Force was preceded by the Social Exclusion Unit which was set up in 1997 to find ‘joined–up solutions to joined–up problems’.
