There continues to be a concerted effort to reduce the number of absences recorded as unknown and ill defined. Improvements to the reporting process introduced in February 2008, have begun to show a decrease in the numbers of unknown illnesses.

Mental Disorders have increased slightly by 0.3%. Musculoskeletal absences have remained stable and Respiratory System related absences have reduced by just over 1%.

Work continues to develop tools and provide support to managers to enable them to address uacceptable levels of absence.

The data for the 12 months ending 30 June 2008 will be published in October 2008.
