RRO Activity

Since the introduction of the Regulatory Reform Act in April 2001 there have been 17 RROs implemented, and a further 8 are at various stages of Parliamentary scrutiny. In addition to these there are over 50 proposals at varying degrees of development.

RRO News for June/July

The Patents reform proposal was laid for final scrutiny on 7th June. The House of Lords and House of Commons committee reports can be found here.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister’s proposal to simplify and consolidate existing fire safety legislation was laid for initial scrutiny on 10 May. It is the largest RRO proposal brought forward so far. Copies of all of the relevant documents can be found here. For further details contact Andy Jack.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sports proposal to allow the Museum of London to exhibit in Greater London was laid for its final scrutiny stage on 6 May. The Regulatory Reform Committee (RRC) in the House of Commons have published their final report on the proposal, as has the House of Lords Delegated Powers and Regulatory Reform Committee (this report can be found here). Both committees have recommended that it is approved by Parliament.  All of the relevant documents can be found here. For further details contact Tim McCullagh.

The RRC have also published their report on the Welsh Ombudsman proposal, which was laid by the Wales Office. They have recommended that the proposal is amended slightly before it is laid again for final scrutiny.  The House of Lords initial report can be found here.
