Office Regulatory Impact Unit (RIU)
|
The RIU’s role is to work
with government departments, agencies and regulators to help
ensure that regulations and policy proposals are fair and effective.
The Unit’s work involves ensuring departments deliver
better regulation through full compliance with the Regulatory
Impact Assessment process; and delivering the commitments in
the Regulatory Reform Action Plan, including over 60 Regulatory
Reform Orders by 2005.
In addition to taking an overview of proposals and regulations
with an impact on business, the RIU also examines the impact
on the voluntary sector and charities and investigates ways
of reducing bureaucracy and red tape in thepublic sector.

Small
Business Council (SBC) |
The SBC is an independent UK advisory
body to the Government. Its members (the majority of whom are
small and medium enterprise owners) are appointed by the Secretary
of State for Trade and Industry. Members are chosen from a wide
range of business, geographical and ethnic sectors, including
members from manufacturing, retail, information technology,
media and public relations, accountancy, business support, recruitment,
academia and training. |

Better Regulation Task Force (BRTF)

The
Better Regulation Task Force was established in September
1997. It is an independent body that advises Government
on action to ensure that regulation and its enforcement
accord with the five Principles of Good Regulation:
- Proportionality
- Accountability
- Consistency
- Transparency
- Targeting
The Task Force does this by carrying out studies of particular
regulatory issues, and producing detailed reports. Examples
include Independent Regulators and Imaginative Thinking
for Better Regulation.

Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) publishes a Voluntary
Agencies Directory which lists all voluntary organisations
by sector. It is available from the NCVO and will enable you
to approach relevant voluntary organisations – this
is important as the sector has a diverse range of functions. |
