Reducing Burdens in Colleges
of Further Education
The Reducing Burdens in Colleges of Further Education (FE) report is the result of a joint project between the Cabinet Office, the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and the Learning and Skills Council (LSC).
The report brings together the main findings of workshops held with FE frontline staff on the unnecessary bureaucratic burdens they faced as a result of:
- excessive, uncoordinated data demands flowing from audit, monitoring and inspection requirements
- ineffective communication and joint-working, between FE colleges and key FE stakeholder organisations
The 26 recommendations made in the report are designed to help:
- reduce the amount of data required of FE colleges by LSC & Ofsted/
Adult Learning Inspectorate
and others - thereby cutting demands on staff and freeing them up to spend more time on their core duties
- streamline funding processes to ensure resources are allocated with minimal bureaucracy and complexity
- deliver first class FE, ensuring the right skills are provided to meet the needs of both employers and the wider economy
