Inspection Concordat
The Inspection Concordat was published by the Healthcare Commission on 24 June 2004.
It provides a code of objectives and practices for Government and independent inspectorates to deliver smarter, more joined up inspection programmes that reduce the burden of inspection on healthcare staff.
Developed by the Regulatory Impact Unit (RIU), the Department of Health (DH) and the Healthcare Commission in conjunction with front line staff and stakeholders, the Inspection Concordat identifies ten objectives that will achieve greater consistency and cohesion in the inspection of health services and a reduction in burdens on healthcare staff.
The Concordat fulfils a commitment set out in the joint RIU/DH report Making a Difference: Reducing Burdens in Healthcare Inspection and
Monitoring, published in July 2003, and will lead to less inspections, fewer requests for data and information and less duplication and overlap through improved planning of inspections.
Further details and a copy of the Concordat can be found on the Healthcare Commission
website.
