Making a difference: Reducingburdens in hospitals - Progess on implementationIntroduction The joint Department of Health (DH) and Cabinet Office ‘Making a Difference: Reducing Burdens in Hospitals’ (Hospitals report) was published in July 2002. It contains 40 agreed outcomes to enable staff in hospitals to focus on higher quality patient care and hospital standards. The Hospitals report also stated the commitment for the Public Sector Team (PST) to continue to work with stakeholders and front-line staff to monitor how the outcomes are being implemented, evaluate their impact and to report back on the progress. DH is responsible for delivering 35 of the Report’s outcomes. Outcomes are also being delivered by the Department for Work and Pensions, NHS Litigation Authority, National Patient Safety Agency, NHS Purchasing and Supply Agency, Nursing and Midwifery Council, Cabinet Office, Commission for Health Improvement and NHS Reviews Co-ordination Group. In January 2003, an Implementation and Monitoring Task Force to oversee the effective implementation of the Hospitals report outcomes was convened. PST has also begun a programme of periodical evaluations to assess how effectively the outcomes have been communicated to the service, how they have been implemented locally and to understand the cumulative benefits to front-line staff. The outcomes are listed under the chapter headings and numbers from the original report. Download this Outcomes Summary for printing please click
