High Level Group of Regulatory Experts

The European Commission has established a group of regulatory experts to advise it on its strategy to improve regulation at both national and EU level. The Better Regulation Executive represents the UK on this group.

The topics the group addresses include the disproportionate impact of regulatory burden on small and medium-sized enterprises, the impact of regulation on competitiveness, methods to measure and reduce administrative burdens, simplification, approaches to impact assessment and national reform programmes.
The High Level Group's tasks are to:

• provide an efficient interface between the Commission and key governmental authorities
• share best practice developed both at EU level and at national level
• improve regulation at national level
• consider common indicators to measure the quality of the regulatory environment as a basis for benchmarking
• advise the Commission on Better Regulation issues
