Allow yourself plenty of time to draft a clearly written, well structured and informed consultation document. Taking time to do this carefully will increase the number, and the quality, of the responses you receive. You should also pilot your draft written consultation document with other policy teams and/or a small group of key stakeholders to ensure that:
Your departmental Consultation Co-ordinator will also be able to advise you on the layout and content of the consultation document.
Remember also to make consultation documents available in other formats where necessary, especially if you are specifically targeting disabled people or those whose first language is not English. See the section on consulting with diverse stakeholder groups for more information.
