Children and Young People

In November 2001, The Children and Young People’s Unit published Learning To Listen, which established core principles for involving children and young people in the planning, delivery and evaluation of policies that affect them. Eleven Government departments made a commitment to these; nine published plans in 2002 detailing their proposals for action.

Ten plans and a Learning to Listen Progress Report have now been published for 2003.

Departments with plans for 2003 - 04:

  • Department for Culture, Media and Sport
  • Ministry of Defence
  • Department for Education and Skills
  • Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
  • Department of Health
  • HM Treasury
  • Home Office
  • Department for Constitutional Affairs (formerly
  • Lord Chancellors Department)
  • Department for Transport
  • Office of the Deputy Prime Minister
  • Department for Work and Pensions

The Home Office has guidance for consultation with young people at http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/docs/app1lup.pdf (PDF - 105.7KB).
