A Bill for Better Regulation

A consultation on proposals to amend the Regulatory Reform Act 2001 is currently underway. The consultation runs from 20 July to 12 October 2005.

If you have any comments on the proposals, please send these to us at the above address, either by post or by email. Your responses will be used to help develop our proposals and a summary of responses will be published on our website within three months of the consultation closing date.

The consultation document draws on the findings of the Government’s Review of the Regulatory Reform Act 2001.

The objectives of the Better Regulation Bill are to:

In particular the Bill will help to deliver the recommendations made by the Better Regulation Task Force, ‘Regulation – Less is more’ report for administrative burdens reductions and rolling simplification programmes across Whitehall. It will also enable the delivery of some of the Hampton Recommendations for reform of the regulators.

The BRE will publish a consultation document on its proposals, and a review of the Regulatory Reform Act 2001, over the summer.
