The Cabinet Office has also published revised guidance on the Handling of Correspondence from Members of Parliament, Members of the House of Lords, MEPs and Members of the Devolved Assemblies.
Following a commitment given by the Prime Minister in evidence given to the Liaison Committee last year the Cabinet Office has published updated guidance to officials in Departments and Agencies who may be called upon to give evidence before, or prepare memoranda for submission to, Parliamentary Select Committees.
The Rules have been updated to reflect changes both in Government and Parliament, and to take account of the Freedom of Information Act. Changes have also been made in response to concerns which various Committees have highlighted.
Following the announcement of the General Election, the Cabinet Office has issued guidance to civil servants on their conduct during the Election period.
Separate guidance on civil servants’ conduct during local elections will not be necessary as the General Election guidance will take precedence.
The guidance is effective from 5 April 2005.
