Use it - Don’t Lose it

An e-learning package has been produced by the IS&A in the Cabinet Office in conjunction with the National School of Government.  It is designed to be used as part of an overarching training programme for all those who handle data on behalf of government.  ‘Protecting Information’ Level 1 provides basic training for all staff on data security.  Using the package avoids duplication of effort and resources across government and ensures that departments are meeting the basic level of requirement on training for staff that handle personal data as required by the Data Handling Report.

The e-learning product provides the following:

• Ability to dip in and out of the training as time permits
• Takes about an hour and a half to complete
• Can be done at the staff members own desk
• Enables departments/agencies to track who has done the training and scores
• A further module (Level 2) is being developed for Information Asset Owners and others who require more in-depth training
