The Cabinet Office today announced the appointment of Jenny Grey as the department's new Director of Communications.
Jenny has been recruited from the Audit Commission, where she is the Managing Director of Communications and Public Reporting.
In her new role, Jenny will be responsible for driving forward an integrated corporate communications strategy to support the delivery of the Cabinet Office's overarching goal – to Make Government Work Better. She will lead on communications strategies to promote the department's key delivery priorities, including tackling social exclusion, reforming the public services and supporting a thriving third sector. Her role also encompasses overseeing counter-terrorism and resilience communications, ensuring preparations are in place to provide effective communications in times of national emergency.
Working to the Minister for the Cabinet Office Ed Miliband and to Cabinet Secretary Sir Gus O'Donnell, Jenny will oversee the work of the Cabinet Office press office, e-media and the teams responsible for the department's internal and civil service-wide communications. She will report to Howell James, the Permanent Secretary for Government Communications.
One of her main responsibilities will be to put in place strategies for strengthening engagement and communication between the centre of government and the half a million civil servants employed across departments and agencies throughout the country.
Jenny was appointed to the Audit Commission in 2006. Her previous positions include Director of Strategy and Communications at the National Patient Safety Agency, Director of Corporate Affairs at Cancer Research UK, Director of Communications at Imperial Cancer Research Fund and Director of Communications at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital NHS Trust. She started her career as a corporate journalist and public relations executive working for a variety of blue chip corporate clients.
