"It is an honour and a privilege to be appointed to the Cabinet. I look forward not only to driving forward policy on the third sector, and social exclusion and poverty, but helping to contribute to policy development across government.
"The challenge for the new government is to respond to the Prime Minister's call to meet new priorities, involve people in new ways in decision-making and reach out to all people who believe in a more just society.
"After a year working with charities, voluntary groups and social enterprise, I am particularly delighted to be able to continue that work."
