Campbell Robb appointed new Director of the Office of the Third Sector

The Prime Minister has approved the appointment of Campbell Robb to be Director General, Office of the Third Sector (OTS) in the Cabinet Office.

Campbell Robb will be responsible for driving the Government's strategic approach to enhance and enable a thriving third sector. Working to ministers in the Cabinet Office, Campbell's role will include:

Campbell – currently Director of Public Policy at the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) – will work to Hilary Armstrong, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, and Ed Miliband, Minister for the Third Sector, in the Cabinet Office.

Ed Miliband, Minister for the Third Sector, said:

“I am delighted we have been able to secure the appointment of Campbell Robb. His extensive sector experience means he will be a strong leader for the Office, and I look forward to working closely with him on driving forward our work to enhance and enable a thriving third sector.”

Campbell Robb said:

“I am extremely pleased to have been given the opportunity to become the new Director General of the Office of the Third Sector. It is a really exciting time for the third sector and I hope that the office can become a driving force for implementing policy at all levels of government, that it will become a beacon for sharing innovation and best practice and that it will work with organisations of all sizes to make sure their voice is heard in government.”

  2. Biography: Campbell Robb joined NCVO in 1998 as Head of Campaigns. He became Director of Public Policy in 2001, and has since been responsible for co–coordinating NCVO's external relations, policy and research work. He is currently on secondment to HM Treasury to lead on the third sector aspects of the next Comprehensive Spending Review. He has sat on a number of voluntary sector bodies, including the Compact Working Group and the Giving Campaign Executive. He is also a governor of his local primary school and a trustee of the Citizenship Foundation. In 1993–94, he was a researcher to David Blunkett MP, and in 1996–97 he was a press officer to Chris Smith MP.
  3. In recognition of the increasingly important role the third sector plays in both society and the economy, the Prime Minister announced a new Office of the Third Sector in May 2006. Ed Miliband was appointed as the new Minister for the Third Sector, working in the Cabinet Office to Hilary Armstrong, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.
