Executive Agencies

Companies House

Companies House incorporates and dissolves companies, registers the information they are required to supply under companies and related legislation and makes that information available to the public.

Export Credits Guarantee Department (ECGD)

The Export Credits Guarantee Department (ECGD) is the UK's official export credit agency. Our aim is to help UK exporters of capital equipment and project-related goods and services win business and complete overseas contracts with confidence.

Insolvency Service

The Insolvency Service administers and investigates the affairs of bankrupts and companies in compulsory liquidations and reports criminal offences; takes disqualification proceedings against unfit directors of failed companies; authorises and regulates insolvency practitioners; provides banking and investment services for bankruptcies and company liquidations; and provides policy advice to Ministers.

National Measurements Office

Ensuring that fair and accurate measurement is available and used for transactions regulated by law. One of our principal activities is preparing legislation under the Weights and Measures Act 1985 and European Communities Act 1972.

UK Intellectual Property Office

The UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) became an operating name of The Patent Office on 2 April 2007. The UK IPO administers Patents, Trade Marks, Designs and Copyright. It is also responsible for developing UK policy and representing the UK in international negotiations on intellectual property. The aim of the Office is to facilitate growth in industry and commerce through the establishment of intellectual property rights relating to patents, trade marks, registered designs and copyright.
