ITPC course accreditation
The core training syllabus for ITPC Certificates is provided by the National School of Government and CESG.
Recognising the wide range Information Assurance subjects that public sector practitioners may need to address, ITPC certifies courses that supply strategic skills for its Government Practitioner syllabus. This most common ITPC variant of the Certificate of Infosec Competency qualification is appropriate for staff at al levels of UK Government departments, accredited contractor companies and those in other public sectors such as police forces.
What training qualifies?
- The ITPC Scheme accredits skills-related training on strategic Infosec subjects. Examples include ISO/IEC 17799, Business Continuity, Security Awareness, Incident Management and related topics
- Courses must impart a demonstrable skill, albeit at a novice level
- ITPC requires "all-round" coverage of the subject, that defines its context within for example legislation, relevant standards and business activities more generally
What are the benefits to training providers?
- ITPC maintains a register of its accredited courses on this web site with links to training providers' site; it also advises Certificate Candidates on the range of training available via the course accreditation scheme
- Training providers are listed in all relevant ITPC publicity materials
- By arrangement with (ISC)2, ITPC-accredited courses qualify for (ISC)2 TM CISSP CPE credits
- Accredited training providers receive the ITPC quarterly Newsletter and are encouraged to influence the development of the Scheme
- Training providers may use the Scheme's logo in their course and related materials
What will it cost?
- ITPC does not charge for accreditation or registration; it does however require that accredited courses are offered to registered ITPC Certificate Candidates at a minimum 10% discount from standard fees
- Courses are subject to stringent initial accreditation and subsequent annual quality assurance reviews in terms of their relevance to current Government and other public sector best practice
- ITPC expects its accredited training providers to enjoin with a program that promotes increasingly higher standards of Infosec training for the UK public sector. We assert the right to influence generally that progression
ITPC reserves the right to remove the accredited status of courses should a training provider fail to make critical changes recommended by the ITPC Secretariat, or to claim falsely any direct involvement with UK Government IT security policy development or its implementation.
