When you have decided which ITPC certificate is right for you, you need to choose your route to certification – standard (training) route or waiver option.
If you have three or more years’ relevant Infosec experience, you can apply through the waiver route. Less experienced candidates will need to follow the standard route. The paths are the same for all certificates.
We recommend you complete the standard route within one year; but we allow up to two years between registering with the scheme and completing your certificate submission because we recognise that work comes first.
To be eligible for the Certificate, you must hold relevant UK Government clearances and be involved in implementing UK Government Infosec policy.
There are different routes to the Certificate of Infosec Competency:
All four standard paths have the same basic structure:
You need to complete three levels of learning to achieve Certification:
The waiver route recognises that some individuals already have considerable knowledge and experience and so omits the requirement for formal learning required in the standard route.
The waiver route does, however, require a full account of some recent Information Assurance activity in which you were involved, in order to assess your capability.
You may be eligible for Certification via the waiver route if you can prove a minimum 3 years’ experience of implementing UK Government Information Assurance policy. Exceptionally this may have been accumulated within the last 5 years
From 1st June 2007, waiver route candidates may complete their application by either of two methods.
To register, candidates must submit:
Once registered, you may begin work on your work-based dissertation, which is the same as for the training route, ie a reasoned case of 3500 – 5000 words.
To register, candidates must submit:
Following registration, the ITPC Secretariat will submit the application form annex, with the name and signature removed, to an examiner. A dissertation will not be required.
