Description: The Competent Persons schema has been developed to standardise the exchange of information between a 'Competent Persons Scheme' and the relevant Local Authority. The information describes building work carried-out by a contractor (e.g. double glazer, gas fitter etc.) who is registered with a 'Competent Persons Scheme' (and therefore does not need to supply Building Control at the Local Authority with the information directly). From the 1st January 2005, all organisations running these Competent Persons Schemes will be required to notify the relevant Local Authority each time a project is carried out under the scheme. Note that the scope of this schema covers the transfer only of the information required by the Local Authority and NOT any other information/messages required by the individual schemes themselves.
The project has been lead by the District Surveyors Association (DSA) representing their member within Local Authorities in consultation with the Office Of The Deputy Prime Minister, Local Authority building control software suppliers and the 'Competent Persons Forum'.
