Description: This schema must no longer be used by Local Authorities because it is technically and legislatively obsolete. The DCSF Parent Know How Project has made changes to the schema which will be submitted to the DCSF Information Standards Board for Education, Skills and Children's Services after integration testing. The changes have been made to implement the information duty required of Local Authorities in Section 12 of the Childcare Act (2006).

The childcare provider schema defines a standard structure for XML data describing the details of a childcare provider such as type, opening times, contact details, facilities and costs.
The schema is designed so that it can be used for overview information (such as search results) as well as comprehensive details.
It makes use of existing address and contact structures to keep it as interoperable and accessible as possible.
These external schemas (also available on GovTalk) are referenced (imported) by this schema:
AddressTypes-v2-0.xsd
ContactTypes-v1-3.xsd
This schema will be useful for organisations needing to transfer or share childcare provider records. Additionally, the schema can be used to structure childcare information for use with searches for the public or as data for a local service provider to assist with finding childcare.
The period of public consultation for this schema was set at 6 weeks, the closing date was 27th June 2006.
