Working in government communication

GCN people work mainly in press offices, marketing units, electronic media teams and internal communications teams.

Media/Press develop media handling plans, answer enquiries from journalists, write news releases, organise press conferences, arrange press, TV and radio interviews and accompany ministers on visits.

Marketing and paid publicity plan and run a variety of campaigns, liaise with agencies and designers, produce publications, TV commercials and press advertisements, commission and evaluate research and implement direct marketing activity.

Digital/Social media design, develop and edit web sites, use e-mail and text messaging to reach target audiences directly, work with digital TV and incorporate new technology into the conventional communications mix.

Internal communication develop communication strategies, manage the look and content of intranet sites, write and produce in-house journals, organise conferences and establish effective two-way communication channels.
