CBRN & Nuclear Emergency 

Course Title:  Strategic Leadership in Nuclear Emergencies 

Who Should Attend

• Those who have (or will shortly have) a personal role at the 'gold table' of a SCC at a live nuclear emergency or major exercise.
• Those with a strategic decision-making authority for national agencies involved in nuclear emergencies.
• Those with a national, regional or devolved government strategic policy-making responsibility for nuclear emergency or serious civil emergency involving radiological contamination.

Aim 

To prepare strategic managers for the unique challenges and responsibility of civil nuclear emergency leadership and policy development in the UK.

Objectives

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

• Appreciate the unique elements of the civil nuclear emergency planning and response arrangements in UK.
• Understand the complexity of civil nuclear incident response and recovery process and how it is integrated with 'normal' major incident arrangements.
• Understand the role, function and structure of an SCG as it relates to a civil nuclear emergency at the Off-Site Strategic Centre Rehearse the unique challenges of Strategic Leadership of recovery from a nuclear incident.
• Be able to review the strategic elements which relate to civil nuclear emergency contained with National Recovery Guidance in England, Wales and Scotland.

Pre-course preparation

Prior to attending this course you will be encouraged to undertake a 30-minute briefing on local civil nuclear emergency plans for your own organisation. This format of the briefing is provided in advance.

You will also be asked to view a short cd-rom presentation prepared by the Health Protection Agency concerning the nature of radiation and its effects. Again, this will be sent to you prior to attending this course.
