Course Title : Risk Management in Civil Protection

Who Should Attend

This course is aimed at those within Category 1 and 2 responders, both public and private sector, who have a responsibility for risk management and its relationship with the wider civil protection duties as defined under the Civil Contingencies Act (2004).

Aim

To examine risk management in civil protection.

Objectives

By the end of the course you will be able to:

Apply the model of risk management in civil protection
Analyse interdependencies in assessing the impact of identified hazards and threats
Evaluate the significance of perception in the risk management process, and identify ways in which that impact may be managed
Evaluate potential risk control measures
Identify risks to reputation and evaluate strategies to manage them.

Pre-Requisites

We would normally expect participants on this course to have completed the Introduction to Civil Protection course.

Please note: no prior knowledge of risk management is required for this course. This course does not cover issues around risk communication in depth as these are explored in detail in our 'Communicating with the Public: Warning and Informing' course.
