The Civil Service Commissioners’ role is to ensure that the Civil Service remains effective and impartial. They set standards for recruitment so that appointments are made on merit, and hear appeals under the Civil Service Code.

The Committee on Standards in Public Life is responsible for setting and promoting standards of conduct by anyone who holds public office.
